The Huldrick Studio & Gallery - Hastings

The Huldrick Studio & Gallery is the working studio and exhibition space of Hastings artist and photographer John Huldrick Wilhelm. One of the first of the new wave of artists setting up independent studios and galleries in what has now become the creative quarter of Hastings Old Town.

The gallery - located at 29 George Street in the heart of Hastings Old Town - opened in October 2004 and exhibits Huldrick's popular range of limited edition prints of Hastings and the South of England and many original paintings of Hastings and the surrounding area in oil, acrylic and watercolour. It also provides visitors with an opportunity to meet and purchase work directly from the artist.

These collectable limited edition giclée prints are taken from original pen and ink watercolour paintings of Hastings by local artist Huldrick. They feature scenes from around The Old Town of Hastings and The Stade and are very popular with visitors (many of these editions sell out within months of issue).

The limited edition prints are made on Bockingford™ watercolour paper - the same as the artist uses for his originals - giving the closest possible reproduction.

Prints are individually numbered, titled and signed by the artist and supplied mounted ready for framing with a certificate of authenticity. Prints cost £25 each mounted ready for framing.

The newest additions to the growing range of limited edition prints by Huldrick. These new editions (Launched March 2010) feature Rye in East Sussex. This is suprisingly the first time Huldrick has really studied Rye in any detail. These new limited editions taken from Huldrick's pen and ink watercolours feature the clocktower at St. Mary's Church, Rye seen from the river, The Landgate, The Mint and of course The Mermaid Inn.

SeaEscape One

A new study of the movement of waves across sand at low tide based on observations made on my walks to the studio along Hastings beach.

I have decided to call this series of paintings SeaEscapes because visitors to the gallery often comment on the calming effect of gazing into these images.

This original painting is on now display in the gallery and is currently for sale. The painting measures 24" x 36" and is painted around the edges so it can be hung without framing.

Live painting in the street

During the summer months you will often find me bringing me easel out into the street. This adds a fantastic European feel to the streets of Hastings Old Town. It is also a great way to break down the barrier berween artist and viewer

Visitors and passers by can see me at work on one of the paintings that will later be displayed in the gallery.

Eclipse · Blue Shift

One of a series of three paintings of the solar eclipse I have recently completed. The others included- "Eclipse - Neutral Shift" (Sold)
and "Eclipse - Red Shift".

These really are striking images - many people enter the gallery because they have caught a glimpse of them through the window.

This original painting (acrylic on canvas) is currently offered for sale at £240.

BEACH HUTS · WEST OF THE HAVEN · HASTINGS

These beach huts at West of the Haven in Hastings were snapped on my way home from the gallery one evening in March. The sky was heavy following a rainy day. Just as the day ended the sun popped out and lit up the front of these huts. I got low on the beach and grabbed this shot.
