Watercolour of The Mint, Rye. Finished in the studio today!
1:23pm - Apr 1, 2010
I have just completed another of my series of watercolours of Rye. I wasn't too sure about it yesterday but with a fresh eye today it passed muster. Moving onto The Landgate next. Hope to finish that later today or in the morning tomorrow.

Beachhuttastic mate!
9:10pm - Mar 17, 2010
Yesterday I promised I would add some more pictures of my latest obsessions... well here they are. I spent many a happy childhood day on the beach at my parents beach hut (No. 117) at the West of the Haven, Hastings. I have recently been revisiting the area and it has rekindled my warm feelings for all things beach hut. Here are two examples one a photograph and the other a simple watercolour sketch based on the memory of our old hut. Hope they make you smile.

De La Warr as never seen before!
10:47am - Mar 16, 2010
It's been a little while since I have added to the blog but I have not been idle. I will add a few more of my activities over the next few days so keep watching.

I have been planning this shot of the De La Warr Pavilion in Bexhill for some time. Finally I got the equipment needed and the weather was right. Looks straight forward but it ain't!

I wanted to get this shot before the new construction works begin on the Colonnade below... this view will be gone in a few months. Shame!

New wave!
9:19am - Feb 12, 2010
During the Autumn of 2009 I took some experimental photographs of waves on the beach in Hastings. I have just spent a few days looking at the pictures again with a fresh eye and have worked this one up to a finished piece. I think it gives a fantastic feel of the waves as they crash against the wooden groynes... you can almost hear it!

Prints are now available from the gallery and online.
Huldrick now appearing on an advertising hoarding near you!
2:06pm - Feb 1, 2010
Towards the end of 2009 I was asked by Ten Sixty Six Enterprises Ltd to design a rocket man logo for the series of Let's Do Business" exhibitions held in Hastings, Eastbourne and Brighton. Short of a model I used myself as the basis for the image - albeit with a few minor cosmetic surgery issues addressed in Photoshop (it took years off me!). The rocket and the roller blades were produced as a computer illustration and then added to the photographic image and then blended in. The image is now in use on a wide range of promotional literature and signage for the exhibitions.

The Big Freeze
9:32am - Jan 8, 2010
The snow has arrived in Hastings and of course I have been out and about with the camera. I have not been able to get to the gallery much this week and have spent much time in St. Helens Woods. As I live close to the area I can get to and from on foot at most times of the day and have decided to make this my photo project during the freeze. I caught this scene early on Thursday morning. I have several more that I am still working on.

With the forecasts predicting more snow I will get out on some more major hikes soon.

Happy Christmas to all
8:29am - Dec 23, 2009
Just a quick line to wish everyone a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!

If you are in the old town in the next couple of days pop into the gallery and say hello. Who knows we may even have some mince pies!

The gallery will be closed from around 3pm on Christmas Eve and will reopen on Saturday January 2nd 2010. See you all in the New Year.
Foggy Morning
11:06am - Dec 11, 2009
I know... I know. I keep stopping by the pier in the morning on my way to the studio and today was no exception. Nice bit of fog to mask the end of the pier and I wanted to try out my low angle shots of the surf again. Whipped the camera out and I got a few interesting shots. Once again here is the best. I have only had a quick go with this back at the studio but you get the idea!

Dickensian day in Hastings Old Town
4:55pm - Dec 6, 2009
Hastings Old Town is a great place to Xmas shop and even more so today. Dickensian characters walking the street and carol singers gives a real Xmas feel. Oh, and let's not forget the Reindeer and Santa!
If you missed it today don't miss next year. Photos of the day will be posted on www.theoldtown.co.uk soon!
